As we start into the summer months, I would like to remind everyone to remember to take that extra minute to secure your premises and belongings so that you do not become a victim of crime. Please consider the following:
1. Make sure your residence is locked while you’re at home and away. All exterior doors, sliding glass doors, and windows should be closed and locked - especially at night while you’re asleep (Criminals will slide under partially open garage doors, lift open windows, and/or try door handleshoping to get into your house).
2. If you have an alarm, please set it even if you are just leaving the house for a short trip.(If you’re out back working in the yard, shut the garage door & secure your house).
3. Please do not leave anything of value in your vehicle while it’s not parked inside your locked garage. (Only leave it if you can afford to lose it).
4. If you see something that looks suspicious, please call us immediately. We need the best description possible of the suspects and the vehicles that they are driving (if applicable). The sooner you call us the better the chance of catching and identifying the suspects.
From a recent interview of an active burglary suspect, we were told that …
“We watch people leave in the morning and wait for them to pull away as the garage door goes down. Most people don’t watch and just drive off. We then run up and go under the door. This then gives us full access to the garage and house. “
You are your best line of defense for protecting yourself and your family. Please consider implementing the aforementioned suggestions. The Officers of the 8th Division stand ready to help you when you need us. Feel free to contact us at your convenience if we can be of assistance and/or answer any questions.
